Over the last five years, The Vodafone Group Foundation (VGF) has invested over £100 million in social investments around the world and is keen to build on its success achieved in exciting new sport and music initiatives. From 2007 to 2010 it will make funds available for both sport and music initiatives which have positive effects on health, education and alleviating poverty.

Advisors for the Foundation include paralympic athlete Dame Tanni Grey-Thompson and Olympic Gold Medallist Sir Mathew Pinsent who will today announce 2 of the charities chosen this year to benefit from The Vodafone Group Foundation.

During the course of the next three years the VGF will be seeking to make a financial contribution in the region of £12million to sport and music initiatives. The VGF has funded a number of projects within this area through its local foundations and is keen to scale up this engagement and work collaboratively with others who have used sport and music to deliver some of the benefits outlined above.

Sir Matthew Pinsent CBE, commented: “Sport gives so much more to people than just the pleasure and satisfaction that comes from simply taking part. There’s discipline, competition, fitness and finally the chance to win, All these attributes, in their own way, provide young people with important life skills. I am thrilled to be advising The Vodafone Group Foundation as it begins its programme to enable charities to further sporting programmes across the globe.”

With £12million currently in the sport and music pot, our special guests will be also discussing their role as advisors, the charities who are to benefit and offering advice for those applying in the future.

Paralympic athlete Dame Tanni Grey-Thompson and Olympic Gold Medallist Sir Matthew Pinsent, sports ambassadors for the Vodafone Group Foundation join us to discuss the new charities selected by The Vodafone Group Foundation.
